I have had the pleasure of being involved in the janitorial supply business for 34 years. In 1977 when I was discharged from the Air Force Para Rescue team I came back to Long Island. My family was involved in the janitorial supply business as Manufacturer Representatives and I was asked to join the company in an effort to grow the business.
For 24 years I worked with manufacturers who were part of the International Sanitary Supply Association creating a market place for the products that could be sold through distribution. As the local representative I trained the sales people of various distribution networks how to sell janitorial, paper and equipment to a diverse end user market. Schools, industry and health care were my primary markets.
After 24 years of operating as a Manufacturer’s Representative, I closed the business and took a position with a local janitorial supply and specialty chemical company as the Sales Manager. From September of 2001 to November of 2005 I enjoyed the job of Sales Manager for this company. It allowed me to expand my training to include working directly with the end user market with my own sales people.
In March of 2006 I became a member of the Strauss Paper Company, Inc. team of sales people. Taking a job with Strauss Paper Company, Inc. was a major step for me. Strauss Paper Company offered me an opportunity to join a family business that has thrived for 60 years. The Strauss family makes everyone who works for the company family. Stewart Straus and Joyce Jonap, his sister, have created a company that allows a person with independent ideas to thrive.
As I enter my 6th year with Strauss Paper they have encouraged me to continue to participate in the organizations like IFMA, IFE and USGBC. I am a committee member for IFMA and hope to continue to help IFMA grow on Long Island.
I have a strong and tireless work ethic that has allowed me to train others who have become sales people for Strauss Paper. I spend most of my days working with my clients developing and implementing new cleaning programs for their facilities. I have a desire to complete programs that will save money, increase productivity and decrease waste for my clients. I play golf, I enjoy racquetball and my family is the most important part of my life.
